Through Natural Voice Workshops each of us in our own way expands our vocal horizon.
Through collaboration with others we deepen our vocal perspective in ways that
enrich our day-to-day lives.
Through collaboration with others we deepen our vocal perspective in ways that
enrich our day-to-day lives.
- Use breath and simple body movement as a foundation for using the voice
- Use the voice to enhance the experience of being in the body
- Use breath, movement and voice to shift our energy states and claim our birthright
as vocal beings
- Ground us in the body using both structured exercises and guided improvisation
- Explore the world of vocal "sounding" in a relaxed and non-goal-oriented way
- Explore the melodic voice that can move effortlessly from speech to melody
- Release concepts of having a "good" voice or of "getting it right"
- Unlock the stuck energy produced by the stress of daily life
- Open up the voice to more fully express our joys and our sorrows
- Provide opportunities to develop our full vocal potential in harmony with others
- Encourage the age-old use of the singing voice to accompany work, devotion
and to aid healing - Focus on being accessible to people at all levels of ability and experience
- Create an accepting community based on respect for individuals, traditions
and creativity

"Thank you so much for conducting the Vocal Play workshop at the 2008 Speak Out! Conference for Young Women. It was easy to pick up on the positive energy of your session from where I peeked in from the hallway. (I couldn't resist belting out a few rounds of the Happy Birthday Round myself!)
"I am certain that you introduced many students that day to new ways of using and thinking about their voices. The evaluation forms for the session were overwhelmingly positive. I hope that in the fall we get a group of young women together regularly to explore the interaction of voice, confidence and healing. You are more than welcome to use the Commission's conference room as a meeting space.
"Karleena, I personally enjoyed meeting you, and very much appreciate your sharing your time and expertise with our participants. You have much to offer our community's young people, and I look forward to working together in the future—and attending one of the Tucson Women's Chorus performances!"
